Puffed Rice

Recently, my sister's gluten free friend was so excited that she found Kellogg's Rice Krispies are now gluten free that she wanted to make sure I knew.  I felt guilty when I heard the news and the excitement with which it was told.  I have been eating Erewhon's Rice Twice since I first began my strict diet, about 3 years ago!  So, I decided I need to get back to spreading the news about my favorite and any new, good gluten free products.

You may be thrown off by it being called puffed rice, but that's what Rice Krispies is.  Little pieces of rice that were heated to the point of explosion, similar to popcorn.  Good for you?  Not really, but its "crackle" and "pop" when sitting in a bowl of (non-dairy) milk brings back memories of childhood and that's good for something.  :)

Erewhon has a variety of gluten free puffed rice cereals including some with dried fruits and even a cocoa puff option.  The best part is they use organic brown rice which is healthier for you than regular white rice.  Here are the ingredients of Rice Twice cereal:  organic brown rice, organic brown rice syrup, organic honey and sea salt.

Kellogg's Rice Krispies are also using brown rice for their gluten free cereal.  Here are the ingredients: whole grain brown rice, sugar, contains 2% or less of salt, BHT for freshness.  WHY BHT?  They were on the right track and just at the end they had to add a preservative!  "For freshness" is absurd; my Erewhon cereal stays fresh in my pantry for months!

I guess it's clear, that Erewhon's Rice Twice is one my favorite gluten free foods.  It's a staple in my pantry, a good breakfast alternative or snack option.  I applaud Kellogg's for helping make more gluten free foods available, but Erewhon is my choice.
